Colorado Forest Planning
We’re participating in forest planning processes in western Colorado, including the Rio Grande National Forest and the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison (GMUG) National Forests. These forests include very important habitat and connectivity for Canada lynx and other species, and also have important implications for fossil fuel extraction on public lands. As part of this project, we will work with partners to develop comments throughout the Forest Planning process. This work is vitally important as Forest Plans dictate what activities can occur on Forest Service lands and how they will be implemented for decades.
Additionally, we will comment on individual projects that arise during the course of the forest planning processes on these Forests. For example, we recently submitted comments and an objection on a 150,000-acre timber sale on the GMUG National Forests with significant adverse effects to threatened species such as the Canada lynx. The Rio Grande National Forest also proposed a ranger-district wide salvage sale in important lynx habitat, and we submitted comments to the Forest Service on that draft proposal as part of this work.
