Tras las reducciones de las protecciones federales para el agua limpia en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, hasta el 95% de las aguas de Nuevo M\u00e9xico han perdido la protecci\u00f3n que les brindaba la Ley de Agua Limpia. Estos nuevos proyectos de ley trabajar\u00edan en conjunto para garantizar que las protecciones federales para el agua limpia que han existido en Nuevo M\u00e9xico durante d\u00e9cadas se mantengan a nivel estatal. Adem\u00e1s, otorgar\u00e1n autoridad al estado para hacerse cargo de los permisos para las aguas que a\u00fan est\u00e1n protegidas a nivel federal, agilizando el proceso.<\/p>\n<p>Los dos proyectos de ley: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/Legislation\/Legislation?chamber=S&amp;legType=B&amp;legNo=22&amp;year=25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ley SB 22<\/a>\u2014un proyecto de ley para establecer un sistema de permisos a nivel estatal para aguas que ya no est\u00e1n protegidas a nivel federal bajo la Ley de Agua Limpia\u2014y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/Legislation\/Legislation?chamber=S&amp;legType=B&amp;legNo=21&amp;year=25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ley SB 21<\/a>\u2014un proyecto de ley para asumir la autoridad de permisos estatales para las aguas actualmente administradas por la Agencia de Protecci\u00f3n Ambiental\u2014establece la autoridad necesaria para construir un programa integral de permisos estatales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLas aguas de Nuevo M\u00e9xico han perdido protecciones cr\u00edticas en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, lo que amenaza nuestra agua potable, la salud de nuestras comunidades y el futuro de industrias clave como la agricultura y la recreaci\u00f3n al aire libre\u201d, dijo Rachel Conn, subdirectora de Amigos Bravos. \u201cEstamos agradecidos con el senador Wirth, el representante Ortez y el Departamento de Medio Ambiente de Nuevo M\u00e9xico por impulsar una soluci\u00f3n que restablece d\u00e9cadas de protecciones anteriores y establece un sistema para garantizar que los humedales y las v\u00edas fluviales que necesitamos para nuestra forma de vida no se contaminen\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNuestras comunidades terrestres dependen del agua limpia de nuestros arroyos, cabeceras de r\u00edos y humedales para regar nuestros campos y cuidar de nuestro ganado\u201d, dijo Paula Garc\u00eda, directora ejecutiva de la Asociaci\u00f3n de Acequias de Nuevo M\u00e9xico. \u201cUn sistema de permisos a nivel estatal ayudar\u00e1 a proteger nuestras acequias y granjas para el futuro\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl plan de acci\u00f3n h\u00eddrica de 50 a\u00f1os del gobernador identific\u00f3 la importancia de establecer un programa de permisos a nivel estatal. SB 21 y SB 22 ser\u00e1n fundamentales para salvaguardar nuestra agua potable, mitigar el impacto de las inundaciones, proteger las comunidades tribales y los lugares sagrados y afirmar el estilo de vida de los habitantes de Nuevo M\u00e9xico\u201d, dijo Tricia Snyder, directora del Programa de R\u00edos y Aguas de New Mexico Wild. \u201cInstamos a la legislatura de Nuevo M\u00e9xico a aprobar r\u00e1pidamente ambos proyectos de ley para proteger las aguas de Nuevo M\u00e9xico\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNuevo M\u00e9xico debe ahora tomar medidas urgentes. La legislatura debe adoptar medidas de protecci\u00f3n y programas para salvaguardar nuestras v\u00edas fluviales de la contaminaci\u00f3n\u201d, dijo Jared Berenice Estrada, de The Semilla Project. \u201cEstas v\u00edas fluviales exigen nuestra protecci\u00f3n inmediata por el bien de las generaciones futuras\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDado que gran parte de las cuencas hidrogr\u00e1ficas de Mimbres y Gila est\u00e1n en riesgo debido a la p\u00e9rdida de las recientes protecciones de agua limpia, se necesita un programa de permisos estatales para proteger nuestras aguas de la contaminaci\u00f3n\u201d, dijo Allyson Siwik, directora ejecutiva del Proyecto de Informaci\u00f3n sobre Recursos de Gila.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLos recursos m\u00e1s preciados de Nuevo M\u00e9xico son nuestros arroyos, lagos y humedales.
