La ventilaci\u00f3n ocurre cuando los operadores liberan gas metano, un contaminante clim\u00e1tico con un potencial de calentamiento global 80 veces mayor que el di\u00f3xido de carbono durante un per\u00edodo de 20 a\u00f1os, directamente a la atm\u00f3sfera. La quema se produce cuando los operadores queman el gas en lugar de utilizarlo. Ambos causan enormes cantidades de contaminaci\u00f3n clim\u00e1tica, tienen un impacto negativo en la salud humana y representan un desperdicio colosal de recursos propiedad de las tribus y el p\u00fablico estadounidense.<\/p>\n<p>En 2019, los operadores de petr\u00f3leo y gas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/US-Methane-Emissions-Reduction-Action-Plan-1.pdf\">ventilado o quemado alrededor de 150 mil millones de pies c\u00fabicos de metano<\/a> o alrededor de $400 millones de gas en tierras federales y tribales.
