Es por esta raz\u00f3n que condenamos los eventos de hoy en Washington, DC y al propio presidente Trump en los t\u00e9rminos m\u00e1s en\u00e9rgicos posibles. El presidente Trump y sus seguidores han pisoteado dos de los pilares democr\u00e1ticos m\u00e1s sagrados de nuestro pa\u00eds: el sagrado derecho del pueblo a elegir al pr\u00f3ximo presidente de los Estados Unidos y la transici\u00f3n pac\u00edfica y democr\u00e1tica del poder.<\/p>\n<p>Asaltar el edificio del Capitolio de los Estados Unidos no es un acto de protesta protegido por la Constituci\u00f3n. Es un acto de sedici\u00f3n y un esfuerzo calculado del presidente Trump y sus seguidores para amenazar y usar la violencia para retener el poder a pesar de perder las elecciones presidenciales. Si bien este esfuerzo fracasar\u00e1, ha causado un grave da\u00f1o a nuestro pa\u00eds. Tenemos claro que los eventos de hoy son una amenaza para nuestra democracia y un obst\u00e1culo para la capacidad de nuestro pa\u00eds para remediar la confluencia de crisis aleccionadoras causadas por la pandemia, la injusticia racial, el cambio clim\u00e1tico y la desigualdad econ\u00f3mica.<\/p>\n<p>En este contexto, los hechos de hoy, alentados por el presidente Trump y perpetrados por sus seguidores, son obscenos. Los estadounidenses est\u00e1n muriendo y sufriendo por la pandemia. Los negros, morenos y otras personas de color deben navegar todos y cada uno de los d\u00edas de sus vidas bajo la constante amenaza de discriminaci\u00f3n y violencia. El clima de la Tierra se est\u00e1 desmoronando debido a la contaminaci\u00f3n desenfrenada por combustibles f\u00f3siles. Y los especuladores acumulan miles de millones de d\u00f3lares a costa de la gente de este pa\u00eds mientras esa misma gente lucha para pagar el alquiler y llevar comida a la mesa de sus familias. Sin embargo, el presidente Trump y sus seguidores han optado por ignorar estas crisis al servicio de la retenci\u00f3n antidemocr\u00e1tica del poder y el agravio artificial.<\/p>\n<p>Hacemos un llamado a todos los estadounidenses de buena fe para que condenen las acciones de hoy. Republicanos, dem\u00f3cratas e independientes deben unirse en defensa de la democracia de nuestro pa\u00eds y la transici\u00f3n pac\u00edfica del poder y ponerse a trabajar, juntos, para abordar la grave confluencia de crisis que enfrenta nuestro pa\u00eds.
