Los grupos defensores de los r\u00edos regresar\u00e1n a la sala del tribunal el viernes 3 de abril para impugnar una decisi\u00f3n que podr\u00eda reducir a un goteo las cataratas Similkameen en el noreste de Washington. Las cataratas, ubicadas en el r\u00edo Similkameen, aguas abajo de la presa Enloe abandonada, son una atracci\u00f3n esc\u00e9nica popular y tienen importantes valores culturales y ecol\u00f3gicos. Actualmente, el Distrito de Servicios P\u00fablicos de Okanogan busca revitalizar la presa Enloe, aunque las incertidumbres en torno a la cantidad de agua disponible para el proyecto plantean dudas sobre sus costos y viabilidad futuros.  <\/p>\n

El Centro de Leyes y Pol\u00edticas Ambientales, American Whitewater y el Consejo de Conservaci\u00f3n de North Cascades est\u00e1n impugnando una decisi\u00f3n del Departamento de Ecolog\u00eda de Washington de otorgar un derecho de agua al PUD de Okanogan para la operaci\u00f3n renovada de la presa Enloe. Una decisi\u00f3n de la Junta de Audiencias para el Control de la Contaminaci\u00f3n (PCHB, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) en 2013 permite que Ecolog\u00eda y PUD retrasen los estudios est\u00e9ticos requeridos hasta despu\u00e9s de que se complete el proyecto, lo que genera preocupaciones de que no hay suficiente agua para la producci\u00f3n de energ\u00eda hidroel\u00e9ctrica y los flujos est\u00e9ticos. <\/p>\n

\u201cSe requiere que la ecolog\u00eda determine si otorgar un derecho de agua perjudicar\u00e1 el inter\u00e9s p\u00fablico antes de otorgarlo.
