La planta de energ\u00eda elimina los desechos de la combusti\u00f3n del carb\u00f3n en los tajos abiertos de la mina donde se extrae el carb\u00f3n, lo que contamina las aguas subterr\u00e1neas de las que dependen los residentes locales para beber y alimentar a su ganado. WELC busca poner fin a este m\u00e9todo destructivo de eliminar los desechos de la combusti\u00f3n del carb\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 12px;\">&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;\"><span style=\"font: 12.0px 'Times New Roman';\">El 28 de marzo de 2012 se lleg\u00f3 a un acuerdo de conciliaci\u00f3n. &nbsp;<\/span>El acuerdo obliga a las empresas a construir estructuras que incluyen un \u201cmuro de lodo\u201d y una zanja de recuperaci\u00f3n para evitar que los contaminantes viajen hacia el r\u00edo San Juan, bombeando la contaminaci\u00f3n a un estanque de almacenamiento revestido.
