Today, the Bureau of Land Management announced the deferral of all 20 parcels in the North Fork Valley from the February 2013 oil and gas lease sale. In a release, the agency announced that the parcels would be addressed through ongoing planning efforts at the local BLM Uncompahgre Field Office.

Concerned Residents Continue to Call on BLM to Remove All North Fork Valley Parcels from the February BLM Oil & Gas Lease Sale

In a letter sent today to both state and national BLM officials, Citizens for a Healthy Community (CHC) is calling on the BLM to remove all 20 parcels and 20,555 acres in Western Colorado’s North Fork Valley from the BLM’s February Oil and Gas Lease Sale. Absent the BLM’s deferral of all parcels, the groups are calling on BLM to issue its final decision so that they may pursue legal action as a last resort to protect the community.

Without this information, residents are denied the opportunity to fully participate in the public protest period that closes December 17.

With just over 2 weeks remaining for the public to protest the plan to lease 20,000 acres of public lands surrounding the North Fork Valley to oil-and-gas developers, Citizens for a Healthy Community (CHC) and the Western Environmental Law Center (WELC) have asked a court to require the federal government to immediately release the names of the corporations that nominated these public lands for drilling. The groups filed a preliminary injunction late yesterday in the U.S.
