Defending the West's Air

Air is essential to life.

Clean air is vital to all life on Earth.  Unfortunately, many of our daily activities and the activities of industry release chemicals and particles into the air we breathe -- chemicals and particles that affect our health and the environment. Today’s air pollution clogs our lungs, impairs our views and is damaging the earth’s climate. The EPA estimates that about 141 million tons of pollution is emitted into the atmosphere each year in the United States.

It is urgent that we hold polluters accountable and clean up the air.

At the Western Environmental Law Center, we’re combining policy work and litigation to ensure we all have clean air to breathe.  We are working strategically with partners to strengthen air quality standards and hold accountable polluters who are in violation.

To achieve these targets, the order established the Climate Change Advisory Group (“CCAG”) to make recommendations to reduce greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions from the range of sources in New Mexico. WELC has been working with this advisory group to ensure that the public is represented.
Protecting Public Health and the Environment from Big Dairies

WELC is working with several organizations to require the EPA and states to regulate these facilities to protect public health and the environment.
