Protecting Idaho’s Wild Rapid River From Off-Road Vehicle Abuse

Read about WELC's work to protect Idaho’s wild Rapid River from off-road vehicle abuse

Years ago, both Congress and the Forest Service provided important conservation protections to Idaho’s wild, unspoiled Rapid River and its surrounding wildlands. These protections are important to protect water quality for imperiled Chinook salmon, Snake River Basin steelhead, and Columbia River bull trout. Unfortunately, the Forest Service has now reneged on these protections and designated this area for use by ATVs and dirt bikes.  Because the Forest Service’s decision to allow ATVs and dirt bikes will hurt the Rapid River, we’ve challenged their decision in federal court to keep this area wild and unspoiled for future generations.
