How We Work
Defending Air, Water, Wildlands, Wildlife and Communities in the West.
Since 1993, the Western Environmental Law Center has worked across the West, using the full power of the law to:
- Reduce air and water pollution;
- Secure permanent protections for our public lands throughout the West;
- Defend and enforce environmental laws;
- Protect citizens’ rights to participate in decisions affecting their communities;
- Prevent toxic contamination of western communities and their natural resources;
- Protect wildlife and critical habitat; and
- Promote healthy, livable communities in the West.
In Court
With a combined 75 years of experience, our attorneys work to protect every western community's right to clean air, water, and land. When polluters violate the law the Western Environmental Law Center’s attorney’s stop them in court. When government agencies fail to enforce our country’s environmental laws, we work with conservation groups and citizens to hold them accountable.
At the Negotiation Table and in Government
Our attorney’s utilize their trained negotiation skills and legal expertise in collaboration with conservation groups and local governments to secure long-lasting solutions to environmental threats.. The Western Environmental Law Center provides critical legal guidance to grassroots groups ensuring that their voices are heard in the management of their public lands and communities.
The Best in the West
To ensure long-lasting solutions to environmental threats in the West, we collaborate with stakeholders in western communities – the hundreds of conservation groups, individuals and local governments we serve.
